Risk Scoring Model Explained

Discover the six weighted factors behind USFans seller trust scores and how this scoring model creates a self-reinforcing quality ecosystem.

The USFans Risk Scoring Model is the engine that separates reliable suppliers from questionable ones. Unlike review systems that can be gamed with fake feedback, the USFans score is computed from six objective, weighted data points that are nearly impossible to manipulate. A seller's trust score is not an opinion — it is a mathematical output derived from their operational behavior over time.

The Six Scoring Factors

Every seller in the USFans graph receives a composite Trust Score between 0.0 and 10.0, calculated from the following weighted factors:

1

QC Image Approval Rate — 25%

The percentage of QC images submitted for this seller's products that pass community verification. Higher approval rates indicate consistent product quality.

2

Shipping Consistency — 20%

Measured by the variance between promised delivery windows and actual delivery times. Low variance scores indicate reliable logistics partners.

3

Customer Feedback Velocity — 20%

The speed at which buyers leave positive feedback after receiving orders. Fast, positive feedback indicates satisfied customers who received what they expected.

4

Price Competitiveness — 15%

How the seller's pricing compares to the market median for identical products. Fair pricing is rewarded; extreme underpricing triggers additional risk flags.

5

Inventory Accuracy — 10%

The percentage of ordered items that match their listing description exactly. Misrepresented products tank this score immediately.

6

Dispute Resolution Speed — 10%

How quickly the seller resolves order issues, refunds, or replacements. Fast resolution shows professional customer service standards.

How Scores Translate to Risk Levels

The composite Trust Score maps directly to a Risk Level badge that buyers see on every product listing. Sellers scoring 9.0 or above receive the "Verified" badge with a green Low Risk indicator. These are the safest options for buyers who want minimal friction.

Sellers between 7.0 and 8.9 are marked as Medium Risk. They are generally reliable but may have occasional inconsistencies in shipping times or minor product variations. Buyers should still check QC images carefully before ordering from Medium Risk sellers.

Sellers below 7.0 carry a High Risk badge. The USFans system does not block these sellers, but it applies warning overlays on their product listings and reduces their search ranking weight by 60%. Buyers can still purchase from High Risk sellers, but they are explicitly warned to verify all QC images and consider buyer protection options.

Temporal Dynamics of Trust Scores

Trust scores are not static ratings. They are rolling averages calculated over the trailing 90-day window. This means that a seller who improves their operations will see their score rise within weeks, while a seller who starts cutting corners will see their score fall just as quickly.

The system also applies penalty acceleration for repeat issues. A single shipping delay causes a minor score dip. Three shipping delays within 30 days trigger a compounding penalty that drops the score much faster than the linear model would predict. This aggressive penalty structure discourages sellers from tolerating systemic problems.

The Self-Reinforcing Quality Loop

The genius of the USFans scoring model is that it creates a positive feedback loop. High-scoring sellers receive better search placement, more buyer traffic, and more QC submissions — which further improves their QC approval rate and feedback velocity, which further increases their score. Low-scoring sellers see reduced visibility, fewer orders, and less community engagement, giving them strong incentive to improve or exit the platform.

Over time, this loop naturally elevates the platform's overall quality baseline. New sellers enter at neutral scores and must prove themselves to gain traction. Established sellers must maintain standards to protect their accumulated ranking advantage. The result is an ecosystem where quality and transparency are the default, not the exception.

Using Trust Scores in Your Buying Strategy

When browsing the USFans Spreadsheet home dashboard, always filter by seller trust score before making purchase decisions. Start with Verified sellers (9.0+) for high-value orders. Use Medium Risk sellers (7.0-8.9) for budget finds where you can accept minor variations. Only consider High Risk sellers if you have extensive QC verification and a strong understanding of what to expect.

Remember: trust scores are tools, not guarantees. Even a 9.8-rated seller can have a bad batch. Always check QC images, read recent buyer feedback, and use the full USFans data engine before committing to any purchase.
